Academy Awards: Hollywood Prepares For Oscar Nominations

The Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday. They will have the best picture category being expanded which is believed to let in a wider variety in films.

The Power of the Dog, Belfast and West Side Story are among the films that are likely to receive multiple nominations.

British actors could be nominated, including Andrew Garfield, Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman and Ciaran Hinds.

The Academy has confirmed that the ceremony will host a special guest for this event, however it hasn’t yet announced who the host will be.

There’s pressure to increase an effort to make the Oscars more popular and relevant to the younger generation following the 2021 ceremony’s cut-down. was a disaster in terms of numbers, partially due to the lack of major movie releases during lockdown.

Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan will announce their nominees at a press conference in Los Angeles at 13:20 GMT.

The only thing you can certainty before the nominations are announced and that is that with a lot more major films competing this year, and only one slot available, many high-profile movies with their leading actors undoubtedly not be able to compete.

In addition, we may witness some less well-known films gaining with surprise nominations. While we should not expect the unexpected Here are some of the actors and films with the greatest chanceof winning:

Since the last 10 years or so, the Best Picture category of the Academy has seen anywhere from five to 10 , with a minimum of (there were eight in the last year).

Since this year the governing body decided that there must be the total of 10 candidates in attempt to make the list more inclusive, diverse and, frankly, well-known.

In theory, it could have created some space for blockbusters, such as the hugely popular Spider-Man: No Way Home or the James Bond filmNo Time To Die.

They’re not conventional Oscar films, and the weak performances of both at the recent guild awards indicates that neither is on track to win a Best Picture nomination. However, they could appear in some other categories that are technical.

Instead, look for Steven Spielberg’s epic adaptation of music video West Side Story Sir Kenneth Branagh’s personal autobiography Belfast, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s love letter to the 70s’s youthfulness Licorice Pizzato show the best film.

The only movie with substantial box-office success that is likely to get into the race is Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi thriller Dune, which has earned $400 million (PS294m) around the world.

While there are many other movies that have been a hit that are in the race for the top spot, the majority of them were released via streaming platforms, and consequently do not have comparable box-office figures.

Netflix have confirmed Adam Mackay’s climate-change drama Don’t Look up which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence is a huge hit among their viewers. With a Oscar-friendly cast it may be in the top picture category.

But the streaming service’s top competitor is, by far, Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog The Power of the Dog, a slow but fierce western that stars Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s not just a possible best picture contender and a winner.

Other movies that are available on streaming platforms that could be considered for consideration includes the Amazon Prime Video’s Being the Ricardos produced by The West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin The film is a follow-up to Lucille Ball as well as Desi Arnaz in the 1950s of Hollywood.

Sian Heder’s Coda available through Apple TV, tells the tale of a girl who dreams of becoming a singer , but must manage her music lessons while also meeting obligations of her family who are deaf.

There’s also an argument to be made for the film of Reinaldo Marcus Green’s King Richard that sees Will Smith play the driven father of younger Venus or Serena Williams, who went into becoming tennis stars of the world.

A nod to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick Tick … Boom!, based on the life of the Rent creator Jonathan Larson, would mean two musicals have been nominated for best picture of the year.

There are many other films that are close to the frontrunners that could be able to win a nomination including Drive My Car, The Lost Daughter, House of Gucci, Nightmare Alley and The Macbeth Tragedy.

Who are the actors currently in the race?

The award for the best actress was believed to be a foregone conclusion, when Kristen Stewart‘s portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer premiered in the cinemas in 2013. Stewart remained a most coveted bookie for several weeks.

Although it is possible to receive a nomination, Stewart has lost a considerable amount of popularity in recent times, especially after failing to receive the typically-required Screen Actors Guild nomination. The category is now difficult to predict and is a bit crowded without a certain winner.

It’s still highly likely to be seeing Nicole Kidman nominated for Being The Ricardos. Her critically-acclaimed performance in Lucille Ball was rewarded with an award called a Golden Globe in January, and she’s previously been given the Oscar to be a part of The Hours in 2002. The Hours.

Two other ex- Oscar winner, Olivia Colman and Penelope Cruz, are also worthy of recognition, because of The Lost Daughter and Pedro Almodovar’s acclaimed Parallel Mothers respectively.

The three top professional actresses in the race, too. Jennifer Hudson (who was Aretha Franklin’s character in Respect), Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) and Alana Haim(Licorice Pizza) all on the same frame.

Keep an eye out for Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Renate Reinsve(The Most Neglected Person In The World) and Frances McDormand (The Tragedy of Macbeth), who are on their heels.

The most popular actor race is more predictable, with award viewers generally agree that Will Smith (King Richard), Andrew Garfield (Tick Tick… Boom!) Boom!) and Boom!) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The The Power of the Dog) are the most likely trio of nominated actors.

The remaining spots could go to such actors as Denzel Washington (The Macbeth Tragedy), Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza), Peter Dinklage(Cyrano) or Javier Bardem (Being The Ricardos).

The categories that support them are getting a bit more agreement as clear frontrunners emerge after confirmation of the other ceremony nominees.

The West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose and The Power of the Dog’s Kodi Smit-McPhee are the current most likely candidates to win the award for the top honors for best actor and actress respectively.

However, other candidates in the category of supporting actresses could be Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog), Ann Dowd (Mass), Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard), Caitriona Balfe (Belfast) and Ruth Negga (Passing).

The supporting actor could be Troy Kotsur (Coda), Ciaran Hinds(Belfast) and the highly controversial performance of Jared Leto in House of Gucci recognised. In the meantime, there are the possibility of fighting in the case of Michael Faist (West Side Story) and Ben Affleck (The Tender Bar).

Perhaps the most remarkable thing is that Bradley Cooper could be more likely of being recognized for his 10 minute supporting performance on Licorice Pizza than for his main role as a character in Nightmare Alley.

Traditionally the Baftas provide a reliable indication of what to anticipate of the Oscars. But don’t search at more than a few Oscar clues in the last week’s nominations for the British Academy.

Recent changes to Bafta’s vote procedures mean that their list of nominees as last year’s is not in line with different awards shows. While both the Baftas as well as the Oscars awarded the majority of the same major winners this year however, there’s a lot less overlap between nominations in general.

The 94th Academy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on 27 March.
